Bob Lenox is one of the great unsung survivors of American roots music - a singer, pianist, composer, arranger, actor & writer. Born in Brooklyn in 1944, of Irish stock, he first worked professionally with his own group Kiwi & the Dynamics in 1957 & recorded with Capitol. His wide influences included gospel, boogie woogie, jazz, blues & folk.
This new ‘rediscovery’ album is full of influences from all areas of US folk, country, blues and rock over the past 50 years and before - with echoes of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Woody Guthrie, Hank Williams and many others. It was recorded in Berlin with excellent backing musicians.
Lenox was a member of the Lower East Side Beat Poets in the 60s and later that decade jammed with Jimi Hendrix ! He worked at Vanguard Records, and recorded & played live with many stars : Joe Cocker, Ike & Tina Turner, Charles Mingus, Esther Philips, Garland Jeffries, Albert King, the Crazy World of Arthur Brown etc, etc.
In the 80s an 90s he was involved as a composer and actor in films, radio, television, dance, poetry & dance. He has been based in France & Germany in recent years.
