The country and bluegrass string band the Wilders (formed in 1996) perform a set of vintage home-style hillbilly vocal and instrumental music, classic old-timey, honky-tonk and fiddle tunes including traditional songs such as "Jawbone," rarities such as "Old Leather Bonnet with a Hole in the Crown," and rockabilly songs like "Trying to Do Right."
The Wilders are : Betse Ellis (vocals, guitar, fiddle); Ike Sheldon (vocals, guitar); Phil Wade (vocals, dobro, banjo, mandolin); Nate Gawron (vocals, bass) - and together they combine a reverence for the roots traditions they revive with the energy and humour to bring them alive, plus their own individual interpretations.
Spring A Leak was originally given a limited release in 2003, but is now reissued with bonus tracks, by the Free Dirt label, who have released two other Wilders albums : On the Wings of a Dove and Throw Down. The Wilders played some UK dates in 2006, including the Edinburgh Festival.
