Title: The Essential Guide To Country (3CD)
Label:
Essential Guides
Cat No

Country has come a long way from its earliest roots as the sound of the dispossessed poor white communities from the mountain regions of the southern states of America. From the growth of its commercialisation in Nashville, through to its fusion with rock styles in the 60s and 70s, the artists presented on our 1st CD show the continuing creativity of contemporary artists as they continually expand the genre.
The music underwent a sea-change in the late 1960s and our 2nd CD highlights the experimental spirit of the era that led rock musicians to view the genre in a more open-minded spirit. Previously disdained as reactionary and primitive, a new generation began to appreciate the authentic and heartfelt emotion so clearly evident for those with ears to hear.
Country has created many legends during its long history, beginning with the stars of bluegrass, mountain music, Western Swing and honky tonk. Our 3rd CD features artists such Johnny Cash, Jim Reeves and Charlie Rich: all have sold millions and we close with the iconic Patsy Cline and her best-known hit Crazy.
