The trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire is an acclaimed 25-year old trumpeter from Oakland, California, who won the recent 20th Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Competition.

On this incredible debut album, “Prelude”, Ambrose is joined by Aaron Parks – piano; Walter Smith III - tenor sax; Chris Dingman – vibes; Joe Sanders – bass; Justin Brown – drums; with special guests: upcoming star Logan Richardson - alto sax (on 2 tracks) and Junko Watanabe - vocals on 3 tracks;

Akinmusire composed all but 3 of the tracks on the album (which are by Parks, Walter Smith and Benny Golson’s famous “Stablemates”). He also appeared on Alan Pasqua's recent Cryptogramophone CD "The Anti-social Club".

Watch out for this young trumpeter. There is a real buzz about him in the States, which is about to spread to Europe, and beyond.
