Lee Konitz has always had a strong attraction for the duo format - and here he at his most fluent and inventive on these wonderfully intimate musical conversations with the equally creative pianist Walter Lang.

Konitz has made a number of duo recordings in the past, following his famous “Duets” album in 1967 - including with Jim Hall, Ray Nance, Marshall Brown, Harold Danko, Paul Bley, Matt Wilson, and many others.

Born in Germany in 1961, Lang is not only a much sought after accompanist, working with the likes of Don Menza, Dusko Goykovich, Chico Freeman and James Moody; he has a long list of recordings under his own name featuring his own compositions.

The music on “”Ashiya”, all composed by Lang except three co-composed with Konitz, is beautiful, mysterious, and playful yet profound - with extraordinary telepathic interplay between the alto saxist and the pianist.
