Paul Ladmirault was one of the founder members of the Breton Composers’ Association, alongside Guy Ropartz, Paul Le Flem and Jean Cras. He witnessed the renaissance of choral singing in France, a striking phenomenon of the latter half of the 19th Century which was fully confirmed in the 20th, with all of his Choral pieces being published. The most impressive cycle is incontestably the set of 10 Scottish songs (Chanson Ecossaises) where the composer himself translated the poems of Robert Burns, James Hogg and Hector Macneill.
