| The aim of this documentary is twofold: to bring back to life a certain French light music, too often overshadowed by that of the Viennese, and thereby pay full justice to one of its finest practitioners. It was in1882 that Emile Waldteufel composed the Skater’s Waltz. Its popularity is doubtless linked to the fact that, owing to the particularly rigorous winters of the time, ice skating was a very popular pastime. In fact Emile Waldteufel left us a legacy of some 293 waltz suites (most consisting of at least six or seven distinct waltzes). |
