o This 20-track CD presents the jazz themes used in the classic 1957 film “Sweet Smell of Success”, directed by Alexander MacKendrick, and starring Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis. The music was composed by Elmer Bernstein, Fred Katz and Chico Hamilton, whose quintet appears in several scenes in the movie.

o The music is played either by the Elmer Bernstein Orchestra or by Hamilton’s Quintet / Sextet (quintet : Paul Horn, John Pisano, Fred Katz, Carson Smith, Chico Hamilton; sextet : Conte Candoli, Frank Rosolino, Ernie Hughes, JohnPisano, Carson Smith, & Chico Hamilton.

o The exciting jazz score, with its dark overtones, was a crucial component of the film - accenting the pulsating Broadway-by-night setting of the story. “These are the sounds of a small section of New York.
