In October 1954, the later Royal Court Singer and world famous Swedish mezzo-soprano Kerstin Meyer, just 26 years of age, had her artistic breakthrough as Carmen at the Royal Swedish Opera. Kerstin Meyer would go on to perform the role 146 times over 16 years, more or less the Carmen for two generations of Opera goers at the Royal Swedish Opera. This Swedish Radio broadcast of 1954 has been issued as a tribute to Kerstin Meyer on her 80th birthday.
