o Singer, songwriter Julien Jacob was born in Benin in 1960, to a mother from Martinique and a father from Guadeloupe - but from the age of four he was raised in Marseille, Fréjus and Nizza. He moved to Paris in 1993 and since 1995 has lived in Brittany.

o This may all help to explain his highly eclectic style : African at its heart but with styles and influences from jazz, Celtic folk, rock, Caribbean and Afro-Cuban music, French chanson and world music. But, perhaps uniquely, with his own invented, mysterious language for all the lyrics.

o “Barham” is his 3rd album - following his international breakthrough recording “Cotonou” (released by Wrasse”) in 2005 - after which he opened at concerts for Suzanne Vega, Cesaria Evora and Rokia Traoré and played key festivals worldwide. He released his debut album “Shanti” in 2000.

o With his warm, deep voice he sings his compositions with a tone that ranges from the intimate atmosphere of a poet divulging a secret, to that of an actor delivering a powerful soliloquy - while with soft melodies and tranquil tempi he conjures an almost meditative atmosphere for the listener.
