Acknowledged as one of the finest singers in country music, Patsy Cline blazed a trail for the fairer sex in a male-dominated industry, alongside such singers as Kitty Wells and Brenda Lee. The music she made between 1955 and her untimely passing in 1963 not only inspired contemporaries like Skeeter Davis but has been a monumental influence on later artists such as k.d. lang.
This collection focuses on the country pop crossover style that Patsy helped to create during the 1950s. With the exception of ‘Walkin’ After Midnight’, these songs were not hits but they have become known as classic performances, loved as much for their lean, spiky instrumental support as are Owen Bradley-produced whoppers of the ‘60s.
