Following on from the successful launch of Metro’s first three exclusive Stiff compilations we bring you The Best Of Tenpole Tudor.

Tenpole Tudor was one the strangest groups to grace the Stiff Records roster. Led by Eddie Tudor (born Edward Tudor-Pole), a former actor, they played a mixture of punk, roots-rock, pop and British dance-hall music. The group developed a thoroughly entertaining and original style that often materialised in their medieval costumes and riotous live shows. Tudor formed the band in 1974 with guitarist Bob Kingston, bassist Dick Crippen, and drummer Gary Long. Before recording the band's first album, Tudor appeared in The Sex Pistols' movie The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle, singing "Who Killed Bambi." In 1980 the group joined Stiff and promptly released "Three Bells in a Row." Their debut album, "Eddie, Old Bob, Dick, and Gary" followed in 1981, selling well and producing the group’s two most memorable songs – "Wunderbar" and "Swords of a Thousand Men." That same year, the group released their second album, Let The Four Winds Blow but despite healthy sales the group’s appeal was waning and they split up the next year. Eddie went on to perform in jazz and swing bands, as well as returning to acting but his heady days as a sword swinging pop prince were never to resurface.

This CD is a testament to a band that despite a short time in the public eye managed to produce a new wave classic in "Swords Of A Thousand Men".
