One of the most celebrated and influential guitarists of modern times, Eric Clapton has always been dedicated to the blues. As he confirmed to Radio 2’s Johnnie Walker in an interview to mark his 60th birthday in March 2005, the blues remain the main foundation of Clapton’s life. “It’s so deep in my soul that I can’t imagine why I’d want to leave it.”

Dating from 1963-66, this collection represents the best of his initial recordings as a student of the blues, when his embryonic talent flourished to the extent that his followers began daubing “Clapton Is God” on walls around London.

It takes in his work with The Yardbirds, the Immediate Allstars and John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, including live recordings, studio cuts, hits and rarities; the kind of material that encouraged a generation to pick up their guitars and wail.
