| The story begins in 1969 when Jean-Pierre Marty was invited to the U.S home of M.Day Thorpe, founder of the Washington Opera. M.Day Thorpe’s hobby was making ‘home’ recordings and suggested that Jean-Pierre Marty record the complete piano works of Schumann! Over a period of two summer sessions the job was done. The resulting tapes of these sessions have remained dormant until rediscovered in 2007, with many in perfect condition. The resulting 8CD set + 40 page booklet is released at mid price and covers all of Schumann’s piano music written between 1830-1840. Jean-Pierre Marty was a piano pupil of Alfred Cortot, Pierre Fournier & Julius Katchen. |
