• This excellent 25-track compilation presents the best tracks from Memphis Slim’s classic 1940s output, including the famous title track Nobody Loves Me (‘Everyday I Have the Blues’) - which has been recorded by a wide spectrum of artists, from Ray Charles, B.B. King, Ella Fitzgerald & Mahalia Jackson to Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana and many others.
• Memphis Slim cut over 500 recordings and ranks with the greatest blues pianists of all time. He was also a fine singer, songwriter and guitarist, leading a series of jump-blues groups or performing solo.
• He made his first recordings for Bluebird Records in 1940, and worked with Big Bill Broonzy, John Lee "Sonny Boy" Williamson, Washboard Sam, and Jazz Gillum. He was recorded by folklorist Alan Lomax in 1947; and his "Messin' Around" reached number one on the R&B charts in 1948.
• John "Memphis Slim" Chatman was born on September 3, 1915, in Memphis, Tennessee; and died February 24, 1988, in Paris, France. He always maintained his legal name was Peter Chatman (his father’s name).
