• The qin has been around for 3000 years. It's seven silk strings stretched across a long wooden soundboard produce the serene floating sound so characteristic of the instrument

• Deng Hong plays a qin from the 13th century but many of the 10 pieces presented here have origins further back in time. Typically they symbolise the tranquillity achieved from closeness to nature and echo the themes of ancient poems such as "Moon Over the Mountain Pass"
