• The Storyville label have compiled this special two-disc set (which includes ten previously unissued tracks) celebrating 100 years since the birth of Ben Webster - one of the all-time great tenor sax players. It is subtitled ‘The Brute & The Beautiful” reflecting his dual prowess in his tough approach to blues/up-tempo material as well as his perhaps better known ballad playing - and the two discs are split between these two ‘styles’.

• Webster is featured in a number of settings and with a wide spectrum of musicians : in 1949 with Jay McShann and blues singer Walter Brown; two fine quartet performances with Teddy Wilson in 1969; a 1958 quintet with pianist Charlie McLean; 1965 radio broadcasts with Kenny Drew, NHO Pedersen & Alex Riel; 60s & 70s sessions with the Danish Radio Big Band; tracks with violinist Finn Ziegler, with trumpeter Carmell Jones; some sublime duets with bassist Milt Hinton, recorded at the latter’s house - and much more.

• The set comes in a deluxe double gate-fold, digipak sleeve, with an 8-page colour booklet.
