• Buddy Rich's story really is the stuff of legend. A child vaudeville star (starting at the age of four!) he eventually graduated to jazz bands, becoming one of the greatest swing era drummers with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra

• This hommage highlights recordings made between 1953 and 56 -- Rich heads three sessions with a variety of personnel, the one constant being trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison. First up are the Buddy Rich All-Stars, followed by three nonet tracks (arr. Johnny Mandel) and finally music from the LP "This One's for Basie" -- Marty Paitch handling the arrangements for a slightly larger band with a frontline of three trumpets: Edison, Pete Candoli & Conrad Gozzo
