• Booker Ervin joined Horace Parlan's quartet in the mid-50s before working with Charles Mingus from 1956 to 1963, appearing on "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" on the albums “Mingus Ah Um”, “Blues and Roots”, and “Mingus Mingus Mingus etc”. During the 1960s Ervin also led his own quartets before a tragic death from kidney disease in 1970, aged only 39.
