• On “Trippin”, French keyboard player Eric Legnini leads his own trio in an acknowledged tribute to the early 70s style of The Meters - with their funky, R&B, New Orleans sound on albums like “Struttin” - but Legnini and cohorts Franck Agulhon, drums, and Mathias Allamane, bass, add plenty of the own influences to the mix. Legnini and Agulhon were both on Kyle Eastwood's 2009 album “Metropolitain”; and Allamane has worked with Stefano di Battista, among many others.

• This is Legnini’s third album - following "Miss Soul" in 2005, and "Big Boogaloo"in 2006. Both with a strong 60s soul-jazz influence - the second, with guests : Julien Lourau et Stéphane Belmondo.

• Eric & Trio will be appearing at Soho’s Pizza Express on 10th February 2010.

• The material on “Trippin” is a mixture of original compositions and standards, including Dizzy Gillespie’s “Con Alma”, Stevie Wonder’s “Secret Life of Plants”, and Jimmy Van Heusen’s “Darn That Dream” - but Legnini and trio lay down a danceable swing to much of this material, using Fender Rhodes on a number of tracks, although there are also two solo piano performances.
