• Han Bennink, the celebrated Dutch drummer, has been active since the 60s when he accompanied visiting American stars, including Rollins, Webster, Dolphy, Dexter and Wes. At the same time he became a leading pioneer of the European free jazz scene, going on to work with Peter Brotzmann, Anthony Braxton and Misha Mengelberg.

• ‘Parken’ is, astoundingly, his debut as leader. It is in a trio setting - with two relative youngsters, albeit extremely able ones : Simon Toldman, piano, and Joachim Badenhorst, clarinet & bass clarinet. A multi-facteted album with soundscape improvisations, versions of three Ellington pieces, a bit of full-blown free jazz and the closing title track with beautiful vocals by jazz songstress Qarin Wikstrom.
