The Equinox occurs only twice a year when day and night are equal throughout the earth.

"The notion of duality: light-dark, male-female, good-bad, attracts me," says director Alan Rudolph (The Moderns, Trouble In Mind, Made In Heaven, Mortal Thoughts, Choose Me). "I'm drawn to life's contradictions."

Life's contradictions are boldly outlined in Equinox, a film which follows the lives of Henry Petosa and Freddy Ace (both played by Matthew Modine). Identical twins separated at birth thirty years earlier, Henry and Freddy have co-existed in the fictitious city of Empire, a dilapidated American metropolis.

Henry is a hapless loner who has yet to find his true vocation. Rosie (Academy Award Winner Marisa Tomei), the streetwalker who lives down the hall from Henry, is just about the only excitement he knows. She coerces Henry to babysit for her and then repays him in the only way she can.

By contrast, Freddy Ace is a charismatic mobster.

Small clues and inevitable circumstances draw the brothers closer and closer together. As their collision becomes inevitable, Henry and Freddy meet for the first time.......and the last.

Equinox also stars Lara Flynn Boyle, Lori Singer and Fred Ward.

The extremely untraditional soundtrack is made up of wonderfully exciting jazz and blues and features such artists as Astor Piazzolla and Terje Rypdal. There's even a touch of Rachmaninov and Billy Holiday.

A great alternative to traditional soundtrack fare!
