• Portuguese singer Dulce Pontes is a true diva, celebrating a musical career spanning 20 years. Powerful, commanding, supremely emotional, that voice burst onto the world in 1993 when she released the folk aria ‘Cancao do Mar’ which quickly became an international sensation.
• Since then Dulce’s career has been marked by her fascination with the traditional music of Portugal, including Fado, regional folklore, and the cosmopolitan styles of the Mediterranean region, including collaborations with some of the world’s great singers, including Jose Carreras and Georges Dalaras who both appear on ‘Momentos’.
• On this new 2CD set, she covers many aspects of Portuguese music : a song associated with the legendary Amalia Rodrigues; a song by her uncle, the great Carlos Pontes; a duet with Greek superstar Georges Dalaras, plus a song recorded in Athens with bouzoukis; and a composition by Ennio Moriccone, with whom Dulce recorded the music for the movie ‘Pereira Declares’;
• There is also a duet with the great Spanish tenor José Carreras, singing the official hymn ‘Todos somos um’, written by Dulce, for the Seven Wonders of the World TV event in the Estadio Da Luz in Lisbon; plus a special version of her famous ‘Cançao do mar’ with cello, oboe, bagpipe, Indian tablas and Portuguese guitar played with a bow !
• As a teenager she had been swept away by her passion for music, and she became Portugal’s Eurovision song contestant in 1991 (a privilege shared with fado singer Sara Tavares) coming 8th before abandoning pop music to give full reign to her extraordinary voice. |

R2/Rock N' Reel Magazine July/Aug 2010
"The second disc has a more cosmopolitan flavour and includes Ennio Moriccone's 'Amor a Portugal' along with the wordless vocal exploration 'Nu'...These highlight the scope of her enormous talent but Fado is where she truly excels."
The Scotsman - Michael Church
"Her new album is a double-CD containing some unusual regional fado vriants, as well as duets with Jose Carreras and Georges Dalaras, and some tracks with Greek bouzouki accompaniment. It makes a pleasantly variegated listen..."
