• The complete 1959 LP ‘Southern Scene’ (Columbia CS9363), by the classic Dave Brubeck Quartet with Desmond, Wright and Morello. This album was only previously issued on CD on a long out of print Japanese edition.

• As a bonus, we have added the complete 1959 Brubeck LP ‘The Riddle’ (CS8248), which pairs the pianist with clarinettist Bill Smith. This album appears here on CD for the first time ever.

• ‘Southern Scene’ was the album that followed ‘Time Out’ (recorded on June 25 and July 1, 1959) but was in many ways a follow-up to his ‘Gone with the Wind’ album, as the quartet returned to other popular Southern songs. On ‘The Riddle’, which followed ‘Southern Scene’, Desmond was replaced by clarinettist Bill Smith (who had been a member of the original Dave Brubeck Octet from 1946 to 1950).
