• The complete classic 1958 album ‘Ella Swings Lightly’ (originally Verve),which was the first of Ella Fitzgerald’s very few collaborations with the great conductor and arranger Marty Paich.

• All of the music recorded during those 1958 sessions has been included here, as well as four rare tunes from 1959 and 1962 that complete Ella and Paich’s collaborative recordings prior to 1966 - included here on CD for the first time.

• Although the band for Ella Swings Lightly is presented on the original cover as an “orchestra”, it is in fact a tentet featuring such superlative musicians as Don Fagerquist, Bud Shank, Bill Holman, Med Flory, Lou Levy, Joe Mondragon and Mel Lewis.

• In 1956, Mel Tormé’s ‘Lulu’s Back in Town’ caused a sensation among musicians - with Paich and Tormé combining in a superb integration of voice and a small jazz ensemble. So, Norman Granz brought Ella and Paich together in ’58 to record these eighteen masters.

• Total Time: 69:05 - 24 tracks (including 4 bonus) - Includes 12-page booklet.

Jazz Journal - John Adcock
it's impossible to tire of Ella's voice, or not to marvel at how fresh she sounds despite her work rate during this time. Unmissable
