The War Requiem was recorded on the 26th April 1967 and it is this passionate version that has been chosen for this CD. Even though Ansermet was a great fan of the English composer he was, however, never able to record the works of Britten for the simple reason that they were both contracted to Decca! This edition is therefore particularly precious, all the more so because of the beautiful version of Illuminations with Suzanne Danco, Ernest Ansermet’s favourite singer.
