• Chuck Willis is one of the great forgotten performers of the early rock & roll era, and this collection is a fine introduction to his sensitive vocals and well-honed writing talents. He could rock, roll, moan and stroll with equal aplomb.

• This best-of collection gathers a variety of the great R&B recordings he made for Okeh and Atlantic Records between 1951 and 1958, including a reworking of his signature “C.C. Rider” (an irresistible update of a classic folk-blues), the song that led to his moniker ‘The King of Stroll’, as well as the equally popular “Betty and Dupree”, “I Feel So Bad” (later covered by Elvis Presley, Little Milton, B.B. King and Otis Rush), and his two posthumous hits, the poignantly titled “What Am I Living For?” and “Hang Up My Rock and Roll Shoes”.

• Contemporary vocalists owe a big debt to Willis. This CD contains an essential collection of songs from one of the most important artists in American popular music of the 1950s.

• Personnel : Chuck Willis, vocals, plus: King Curtis, Budd Johnson, Gene Barge, Freddie Jackson (ts), James C. Harris, Jimmy Nottingham (tp), Romeo Penque (as), Frank Saracco (tb), Mike Stoller, Sam Price, Howard Biggs (piano), Kenny Burrell, Roy Gaines, Al Caiola (g), Lloyd Trotman (b), Joe Marshall, David “Panama” Francis (d), Teddy Charles (vib), The Cues (voc), among others. Arranged & conducted by Quincy Jones, Ray Ellis, Leroy Kirkland, Freddie Jackson. Recorded in New York City (1951 – 1958) and Atlanta, GA (1958).

• Total Time: 71:07 - 29 tracks - also includes 16-page booklet with rare photos, vintage visual memorabilia& detailed liner notes.
