The breadth of material present is phenomenal and it’s a collection littered with gems: songs from the classic ‘Liza With A Z’ album; the synth-pop greatness of her work with the Pet Shop Boys on the album ‘Results’ with that wonderful cover of Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Losing My Mind’ (UK Chart 6); the Charles Aznavour penned ‘There Is A Time’; a really great take on Bill Wither’s ‘Use Me’ from 1973’s ‘The Singer’ album that some of London’s cooler funk DJs were dropping back in the 90s at seminal clubs like The Wag; the Studio 54 (where Liza would hold court with Andy Warhol) influenced strut of ‘Jimi Jimi’ from 1977’s ‘Tropical Nights’, right through to Liza’s signature tune ‘New York, New York’ from the Martin Scorsese film of the same name that she made her own.
