Born in Ivory Coast, Kouame Sereba is a multi-instrumentalist who travelled widely in Africa before moving to Norway in 1983. In addition to solo projects, he has collaborated with musicians of many different styles; jazz, folk, contemporary and World Music.

His new album, "Bako", is a highly atmospheric recording on which West African music - his voice, songs & lyrics - are sensitively combined with a modern electronic sound. He calls this style 'ambient Afro-beat' - but those that might be put off by such a phrase, should give this a listen. It is a fusion that really does work, in an entrancing way.

The electronic programming is overseen by Erik Wøllo, a significant part of this project, who also plays some guitar and other electronic instruments. Sereba also plays 'dodo', a traditional mouth harp that can almost sound electronic. He recorded an album called "Kilimanjaro" in 1992, which contained early examples of his ambient African approach.

Kouame has performed extensively in Norway, and toured in Japan, Germany and Africa. He also plays guitar, percussion and djembe. He sings one of his songs "Atolago" in the Hollywood movie 'The Interpreter' - the 2005 film by Sydney Pollack, starring Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn.
