To Pennsylvanian-born Alfred Cini (b.1927) goes the permanent distinction of having topped the first ever British pop chart. As “Al Martino” his record of Here In My Heart was No.1 in the brand new NME chart of 14th November 1952. Al was one of the most successful of all the great crooners of the 50s, following in the Italian-American tradition of such as Perry Como, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. He continued to have hits in the 60s and 70s and perhaps even greater fame as “Johnny Fontane” in the film The Godfather.

Retrospective’s Here In My Heart presents an uplifting programme of Al Martino in his 50s heyday. Here are no fewer than 28 songs (over 78 minutes) that represent his very best work.
