Listening to ‘Children’s Favourites’ was a Saturday morning ritual for millions in those unsophisticated, far off days of innocence, and – younever know – perhaps even today’s youngster might still be as entranced as his parents and grandparents were by this remarkable collection of 48 vintage classics that have stood the test of time – all from the original artists andtranscribed from cherished 78s.

The infectious guffawing of The Laughing Policeman reopens the door to one’s childhood, to reveal a magical storybook of characters such as Popeye TheSailorman or Ragtime Cowboy Joe, or film favourites like Heigh-Ho from Snow White or We’re Off To See The Wizard from The Wizard Of Oz. Animals accounted for a great number of children's favourites: Teddy Bears’ Picnic,Who’s Afraid Of The Big Bad Wolf?, The Owl And The Pussy Cat, Run Rabbit Run on so on, not to mention other creatures such as Three Little Fishes, The WoodyWoodpecker Song or Arthur Askey’s The Bee Song.

Other subjects for children's songs range from Grandfather's Clock to Frank Crumit's The Song Of The Prune to the unmentionable Thing of Phil Harris. Thatwonderful, evergreen musical classic Tubby The Tuba is retold by Danny Kaye ("Ooh, said Tubby, how happy I am"), as is the whole of Sparky’s Magic Piano, before we are tucked up in bed with Paul Robeson’s Little Man, You’ve Had A Busy Day and Vera Lynn’s Goodnight, Children, Everywhere.
