• Conrad Gozzo (1922-1964) was a superb lead trumpet of rare force and vigour --a busy studio musician who became first choice of both Henry Mancini and Frank Sinatra. On this 1955 album, his only one as leader, "The Goz" was given more than adequate representation and freedom for all his talents, appearing in front of a 16 piece band, a group with strings and a small combo.

• His full sound epitomises the trumpet generation of the '40s and the big band sides particularly reflect the idiom in which this legendary trumpeter had his roots
