• Stanford’s second piano concerto was conceived with the Ukrainian pianist, Moritz Rosenthal, in mind, and Stanford hoped that Rosenthal might take the concerto to America with him in 1913. This unfortunately did not happen but thankfully the concerto did get its premiere stateside in 1915 with pianist Harold Bauer.

• The first British hearing was in Bournemouth in 1916 with the concerto’s first performance at the BBC Proms having to wait until 2008, given by Finghin Collins.
