• Davor Kajfes - pianist, composer, teacher – was born in Zagreb, and since 1967 has been working in Stockholm. He is the father of jazz trumpeter Goran Kajfes, who has recorded for Blue Note and is currently with the Swedish group Oddjob, on the Act label.
• Goran plays on 3 tracks on this album, in sparkling duets with his father - and this, otherwise, solo piano CD demonstrates Davor’s rich, eclectic jazz background and his splendid technique, as well as his compositional skills - with 3 of his own compositions, as well as those by Monk, Coltrane, & Strayhorn.
• In 1959, Davor joined the Zagreb Jazz Quartet and quickly became its leader. He toured with the quartet in Europe and the USSR, and played and recorded with: Art Farmer, Buck Clayton, Csaba Dese, Helen Humes, Big Joe Turner, T-Bone Walker, Albert Mangelsdorff, Red Mitchell, and many other prominent jazz musicians and singers.
• Since 1998, Davor has played in an improvisation duo with composer/cellist Peter Schuback - their CD "Impositions" (NOSAGCD067). For more than 30 years he taught, played and composed for dancers at the Ballet Academy of Stockholm. |
