• Tunisian oud player Moufadhel Adhoum and Greek-Belgian pianist Niko Deman joined forces in 2006 and created the quintet Hijaz. Their compositions are based on the dialogue between oud and piano which results in a European Mediterranean sound with elements from Greece, North Africa, the Middle East and western jazz.

• ‘Chemsi’ is their second CD, and has already been high in the European World Music charts. It follows their debut, ‘Dunes’, released in May 2008, which was well received by the international press.

• This new album reveals a more mature group, further deepening the harmonious interplay between piano and oud and experimenting with more adventurous rhythmic patterns - with the help of some guests : Edouard Prabhu (tabla), Houssem Ben El Khadi (ney/flute/bendir), and Tcha Limberger (violin), plus musicians on doudouk, derbouka, deholla, bass, drums, etc.

• Hijaz are in concert in London at the Union Chapel on May 28th 2011.
