• The complete sessions by the John Coltrane Quintet with Red Garland on piano and Donald Byrd on trumpet. Originally issued on many different albums, this is the first time this body of music is ever presented alone on one single edition.

• Recorded while Trane was working for Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk, these splendid quintet sides show the saxophonist’s development prior to his 1960 quartet with McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones.

• Added as a bonus, at the end of CD Four, is another complete Coltrane-Garland quintet session, with Freddie Hubbard on trumpet instead of Donald Byrd.

• Included on this set are the complete albums : ‘All Mornin’ Long’, ‘Soul Junction’, ‘High Pressure’ (all 1957), and The Believer (1958), as well as all of the Coltrane-Byrd-Garland quintet tracks from ‘Lush Life’, ‘Dig It!’, and The Last Trane (all 1958). All these albums were originally issued on Prestige.
