• The opera written for Angiolo Orvieto’s libretto (1869-1967) has no plot but consists of four acts –pictures from Chopin’s life which correspond with, in quite a free literarily way, four symbolic seasons. These being, spring (youth in Poland), summer (Parisian salon), autumn storm (stay in Majorca) and winter dusk of life (composer’s agony in Paris). The opera had its premiere in 1901 and for the next 30 years graced the opera stages across Europe.
