• The complete original LP ‘Blues in Time’ (originally on Verve), the first of only two studio quartet collaborations between Gerry Mulligan and Paul Desmond. The wonderful interplay of their respective baritone and alto saxes is clear from the beginning. The two musicians would perform together in later years on tours with Dave Brubeck.

• An additional version of Mulligan’s “Line for Lyons” by Paul Desmond’s quartet with Don Elliott has been added as a bonus.

• The sessions that produced Blues in Time marked the first of only two studio albums featuring Paul Desmond and Gerry Mulligan in a quartet format. The dates made use of the same basic instrumentation employed by Mulligan in his classic piano-less quartet with Chet Baker, but with Desmond’s alto instead of Baker’s trumpet.
