A magnificent double CD celebrates the artistry of the greatest jazz trombonist of them all, with a summary of his very finest work from 1928 to 1954.

The name of “Big T”, Texan Jack Teagarden (1905-1964), is a two-word definition of jazz trombone. He was indisputably the greatest trombone soloist in jazz history, setting a new standard in the 20s and creating a totally newapproach. With his lazy Texan drawl, Teagarden was almost equally revered as a highly distinctive jazz singer. ‘A Hundred Years From Today’ gives the best possible summary of Teagarden’s unique star quality as both trombonistand vocalist. Starting in 1928 with his first major session, with Roger Wolfe Kahn, and following through to fine 1954 recordings such as Meet Me Where They Play The Blues, the generous sequence includes all the numbers with whichTeagarden is forever associated: Basin Street Blues, I Gotta Right To Sing The Blues, Stars Fell On Alabama, St. James’ Infirmary and so on. He is heard in many of his famous settings, with such as Eddie Condon, Red Nichols, BennyGoodman, Paul Whiteman and, of course, with Louis Armstrong (Rockin’ Chair). 18 tracks are with his own orchestra (somewhat underrated) and small groups such as his Big Eight.

This Retrospective demands a place in every jazzcollection.
