• Brussels-based, Dutch-born pianist Diederik Wissels (born1960) attended Boston's Berklee College of Music, and early in his career played with Chet Baker, Joe Henderson and Toots Thielemans

• “Kaos” is a collection of 21 short solo piano compositions and improvisations written by the pianist between 2006 and 2009, of which 12 are on this CD.

• Wissels states that these jazz compositions were heavily influenced by his close study of pieces by the Catalan composer Federico Mompou, especially his ‘Six Preludes’.

• He was also closely influenced by Alexander Scriabin and Polish composer Karol Szymanowski. The special atmosphere of Gnossiennes of Erik Satie and the ritual dances of André Jolivet also played a big role in this project.
