• This DVD of an 1973 MPB Special by Chico Buarque, was recorded a few years after his return from self-exile in Italy. Brazil was still under the reins of the military dictatorship that had begun in 1963 and would last until 1985.

• Buarque is a singer, composer, guitarist, author, dramatist and poet - but best known internationally for his music. He is one of the most important Brazilian artists of the past 50 years.

• His performance here includes his customary commentary on social, economic and cultural matters in Brazil, and Rio de Janeiro in particular - although his material was regularly banned during this period by government censors.

• Across the 18 tracks he also alludes to his passion for football, the death (that year) of Brazilian singer-composer Ciro Monteiro, and his close friendship with Vinicius de Moraes - he sings two of their co-compostions - and he also performs his theme for the 1972 Carlos Diegues movie, ‘When the carnival comes in’.
