• "Scenes From South Africa", presents key recordings from all Themba Mkhize’s solo albums on one album for the first time. His mix of African rhythms with American jazz created his very own ‘SAfro Beat’, a pioneering style in the evolution of jazz and world music.

• Trumpeter Hugh Masekela and vocalist Sibongile Khumalo feature as guests, and Mkhize accompanies his ‘SAfro Jazz’ with frugal, almost discreet piano interludes and examples of his breathtaking vocal technique, whilst adding genre-defying elements of Zulu traditions, funk and post-Coltrane jazz.

• Themba Mkhize, a resident of Johannesburg, is an outstanding figure from the music scene in South Africa. His previous albums include 5 South African Music Awards in categories such as "Jazz Album Of The Year" and "Producer Of The Year" - and the country's most coveted prize for jazz, the Daimler-Chrysler Award.

• He has acted as musical director for many renowned South African artists like Miriam Makeba and Busi Mhlongo, and produced such African icons as Oumou Sangare from Mali - as well as a number of musicals and other high profile projects.
