• ‘While I'm Awake’, the second album from young, Dutch soul-jazz singer & song-writer, Giovanca, was created during lengthy periods of insomnia, and focuses on the highs and lows of love and relationships. It follows her well-received 2008 debut album ‘Subway Silence’, inspired by images gathered on underground trains.

• Her unusual creative and lyrical approach is underpinned by a wide spectrum of musical styles, ranging from blues, R&B, gospel and soul-jazz to Motown, sixties pop, and 80s dance music.

• This mainly upbeat album will appeal equally to fans of earlier soul-pop like Dionne Warwick and Gladys Knight through to India Arie and Corrine Bailey Rae.

• Giovanca has appeared at the North Sea Jazz Festival, in Amsterdam's Concertgebouw and has toured across Europe and in Japan - a country where her album sold especially well.

• She has won the Laren Jazz Award, the 3FM Serious Talent Award - and received an Edison Award nomination. She was also presented with a Silver Harp, an award to young artists who 'have already made a significant contribution to Dutch music’.
