• In this tasty anthology, Bruno Blum, and Fabrice Uriac, have collected together the original versions of some of the genre’s essential classics, by artists including : King Radio, Wilmoth Houdini, Lord Invader, Lord Melody, The Island Champions, The Duke Of Iron, The Roaring Lion, Young Tiger, Mighty Terror, and Enid Mosier And Her Trinidad Steel Band.

• The roots of calypso go back to the slave trade in Trinidad & Tobago, and developed especially in the latter half of the 19th Century. The first recorded calypso appeared in 1912, and its influence spread throughout the Caribbean. It was more widely popularised by Harry Belafonte in the 1950s.

• These calypso classics reveal well-written dancing songs, with vivid lyrics full of social comment and humour. These stars of authentic calypso created a refined, urban sound that had far more style and character than the foreign calypso hits they inspired.
