Ian Wilson was born in Belfast (1964) and began composing while at university. He has written nearly one hundred works, including chamber opera, concertos and string quartets. Man-o’-War was written for the BBC Proms (2001) and was at the time his most high profile commission. Violinist Rebecca Hirsch has recorded for Da Capo and Naxos, with two of her releases nominated for Gramophone’s ‘Best Record of the Year Award’. She has also been described by the Sunday telegraph as “an amazing soloists, a star in the ascendant”.
