• This release, the first of four newly remastered Ray Conniff reissues on the Blue Moon label, presents two complete, original albums on one CD : his first Columbia album : ‘S Wonderful’ (1956) and his 8th Columbia album ‘It’s the Talk of the Town’ (1959). With deluxe, gatefold sleeves and original period artwork.

• On ‘S Wonderful’, Conniff endowed dance music with a tantalising beat, a new sound and some very stylish arrangements, featuring his famous wordless vocal choruses - thus developing one of the freshest ideas in popular music since the early ‘40s. ‘It’s the Talk of the Town’ employs the same general approach, but is more reflective in mood, with many of the selections slower and smoother.

• Ray Conniff began his career as a jazz trombone player, serving time in the bands of Bunny Berigan and Bob Crosby in the late 1940s and early ‘50s. In 1954, he was hired by Columbia Records as an arranger by Mitch Miller, leading to work as an in-house arranger for many artists and releases on that label, before forming his own orchestra in 1955.
