The art of brass playing embraces a range of diverse approaches and styles. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the musical melting pot of the USA. On the Shoulders of Giants pays tribute to this diversity and to the great American brass virtuosi whose legacy has provided the foundation for countless giants of today. The world premiere of the wind orchestra version was given at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on the 21st October 2011 under the direction of Nigel Boddice MBE.

ROYAL CONSERVATOIRE OF SCOTLAND AND NIMBUS PARTNERSHIPHot-on-the-heels of the change of name, from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland has announced it willbe releasing a series of recordings each year in partnership with Nimbus Records. The partnership is the first in this country between label and institution, and will include orchestral recordings, recitals, operas, dramas and even films that are judged to have been especially successful will bechosen for release by the Conservatoire and by the student body. As part of the curriculum, students will learn about making recordings by going into the studio regularly themselves. The initial expectation is that there will be roughly twelve releases a year from the RCS.
