• Two excellent albums by the Chicago-born, soul-jazz, neo-bop pianist Junior Mance, who worked with Gene Ammons and Lester Young in the late 1940s and with Dinah Washington, Cannonball Adderley Quintet and Dizzy Gillespie in the Fifties.

• He formed his own trio in 1961, when both these albums were recorded : “The Soulful Piano of Junior Mance” and “Big Chief !” (some of which was recorded live), showing him to be one of the most compelling, joy-generating, and distinctive performers of his generation.
