• These Joao Gilberto recordings started the Bossa Nova craze worldwide : here are his first 3 original albums on one CD, with bonus tracks, plus a 20-page booklet with original art work, liner notes and all lyrics, presented in a special digipack sleeve.
• In summer 1958, Joao Gilberto - an unknown 28 year-old Brazilian guitarist and singer from Bahia - made his recording debut as a singer with two songs "Chega de Saudade" and "Bim Bom." This new rhythmic style, ‘batida’, with its rich harmonies behind Joao’s swinging guitar and seductive, vibrato-less vocals laid the basis of modern Brazilian samba, known as Bossa Nova.
• “Desafinado” the next big Gilberto hit assured his stardom, and launched the bossa nova craze. Soon, singers and musicians, worldwide, were using Bossa Nova - especially North American jazz musicians like Stan Getz, Herbie Mann, and Charlie Byrd.
• The legendary Brazilian singer-composer, Antonio Carlos Jobim, who arranged and conducted many of the tracks on these early Gilberto albums, stated : “Yes, the guy who brought the Bossa Nova beat to the world was João Gilberto.”
