• Cuban pianist Omar Sosa and Italian trumpeter Paolo Fresu are both prolific, internationally respected musicians, who first collaborated in 2006, on the live album ‘Promise’ (Skip Records) - a tour of Italy followed.

• ‘Alma’ is basically a duo album where Fresu's modern European slant on Miles Davis-style moodiness meets Sosa's inimitable explorations of the Afro-Latin diaspora - with the additional presence of cellist Jaques Morelenbaum on several tracks. They also use percussion, samples and electronics.

• A mainly reflective album, but absorbing, emotional and uplifting. Sosa provides most of the compositions, with three pieces by Fresu - plus a trio reworking reworking of Paul Simon's "Under African Skies", sounding like a meeting between Miles Davis, Bobby McFerrin, Jacqueline du Pré and Abdullah Ibrahim.
